The new Love Island glow is now our number 1 look

Coveting this year’s flawless Love Island look? Us too. We asked aesthetics expert Lesley Reynolds – aka the Queen of Harley Street – to cast her eye over this season’s singletons and reveal how anyone can grab a bit of that Islander glow. (And yes, she says it’s perfectly possible!)

Lesley says: Flawless complexions, toned limbs and sizzling style: the Love Islander girls are looking undeniably stunning in the villa this year. But have you noticed anything different about their appearance this time?

There are no frozen faces or freaky fillers, no caked-on foundation or even over-lined lips. Instead, from the very first episode, almost every female contestant has been sporting a gorgeous “no-effort” look – think glossy lips, a gleaming complexion, barely-there make-up and a healthy natural glow.

Tasha Ghouri And Indiyah Polack are just two of the bare-faced beauties on this year’s show

Of course, it helps that the Islanders are all in their teens and 20s but it’s a look you can achieve your own way, at any age – and I’m going to tell you how. Personally I see what’s happening on Love Island as a reflection of the trending “clean face” aesthetic, a very welcome backlash against the exaggerated features we’ve all been used to seeing over the years.

According to LSN Global, there has been a huge increase in what’s dubbed ‘enhanced natural beauty”, while a recent study from Euromonitor International found that more than 50% of consumers now define beauty as “looking healthy”.

At my Harley Street Skin Clinic I am certainly seeing a shift away from requests for overly full lips and extremely defined cheeks. Instead, clients are focused on boosting skin quality and subtly restoring their natural facial volume.

So how can you achieve a natural glow? It’s easier than you think – and no-one but you will know.

Every skin type has the potential to reach that full 100-watt gleam, in every decade. It’s not about perfection – that doesn’t exist. The secret is to create a glowing radiance using tweakments which won’t change the shape of your face or features but will help tighten, smooth and improve the quality of the skin. That all leads to a better version of you in the mirror, not a stranger staring back!”

7 Tweakments For Your Freshest Skin Yet

1. The VI Derm Skin Peel

A medium-strength peel is great for treating signs of ageing like wrinkles

A red carpet favourite with my celebrity patients, this medium-strength peel is great for treating signs of ageing like wrinkles, enlarged pores and uneven pigmentation. Like other chemical peels, a VI Peel works by exfoliating your skin and stimulating new collagen (the building block of youthful skin) but this one contains an anaesthetic so there’s no pain or stinging.

It’s also custom formulated for your skin type using a blend of ingredients that include salicylic acid, trichloroacetic acid (TCA) and phenol, achieving the same results as much deeper peels. A single treatment will make skin look brighter, tighter and more even-toned. To maintain results, a booster every 3 to 4 months is recommended. Allow downtime of up to a week. From £350.

2. Morpheus 8

This new 30-minute tweakment has celebs queuing up for complexion perfection. It uses a handheld zapper which brings together two of the most effective skin-boosting treatments, micro-needling and radiofrequency, with little downtime. They work together to create a controlled trauma, triggering collagen and elastin production, and shrink-wrapping the skin.

This results in a lifted, tighter and plumper complexion that looks dewy and radiant. It can be used on the face, neck and body, and one to three treatments is recommended depending on the skin’s initial quality. You may experience a little redness but this should dissipate within 4-24 hours, depending on the depth of the treatment you had. From £950 for a doctor-strength treatment.

3. CO2 SmartXide Laser

Laser treatments can improve skin texture, shrink pores and zap sunspots

One of the best lasers around to help rejuvenate and resurface the face, improving texture, shrinking pores, zapping sunspots and fading the appearance of acne scars, pigmentation and fine lines – all in one hit.

The laser penetrates the surface of the skin, creating microscopic wounds within the dermis which kickstarts new collagen production. Expect downtime of 3-5 days. Best results will be seen after six weeks when new collagen has formed, leaving you with skin that gleams with health. From £950.

4. Forma

One of the best tweakments for improving skin tone and texture, Forma is a non-invasive treatment using next level radiofrequency energy to help contract the layers of the skin and stimulate new collagen. It suits all skin types, has no down time and ideal for those who would rather avoid needles or lasers.

The painless procedure feels like a warm massage and uses a small hand piece which can treat all areas of the face, including forehead lines, crow’s feet, jowls and smile lines. You’ll see tauter, smoother skin after 6-8 weekly treatments, costing £200 each.

5. Sprinkles

Subtle and sparing use of Botox can give you a fresh appearance

Skillful use of Botox injected in minute doses can not only make you look years younger by treating lines but can also help to reduce pores, resulting in tighter, smoother skin without downtime. Results are seen within three to five days and last up to six months. From £199, depending on areas treated.

6. Innopen

A motorised micro-needling pen that helps restore radiance to dull complexions. During the 30-minute treatment, the device creates controlled micro-injuries to the skin, before serums packed with growth factors are massaged into the complexion. This double whammy puts collagen production into overdrive, helping to plump and tighten thinning skin, soften lines and give tired complexions a new glow.

The device can be used all over the face and neck, including the eye area, and feels like light sandpaper being rubbed over the face. Skin may be red for 24-48 hours afterwards, but can be covered with mineral make-up. You must wear SPF50 after the treatment to protect the fresh new skin. From £350.

7. Zhoabex

Injectable moisturiser will improve the quality of skin

Dubbed the ‘injectable moisturiser’, the idea is to improve the quality of the skin so it refracts light in the most flattering and radiant way. Rather than adding volume, Zhoabex uses hyaluronic acid to hydrate your skin from the inside out. The treatment takes around ten minutes, our clients find it painless (we use numbing cream and a cannula) and we’ve never had a bruise or lumps from it.

Skin may be a little pink after the treatment, but you can apply make-up immediately afterwards. Two treatment sessions, four to six weeks apart are recommended, and results last around 9-12 months. Around £500 per treatment.

But don’t forget skincare…

For optimum results, combine tweakments with a good skincare routine and healthy diet. The most potent anti-ageing ingredients to include are daily SPF, antioxidants like vitamin C to brighten skin, peptides to prevent sagging, hyaluronic acid to plump and, at night, retinol to smooth wrinkles, boost collagen and lighten spots.

Try the Harley Street Stem Cellutions range, from £42 here. Eat plenty of vitamin C-rich foods to help mop up ageing free radicals, and sip plenty of water throughout the day to help your skin remain healthy and dewy.
