The murder-mystery comedy Only Murders in the Building has taken Hulu by storm, and it’s already been renewed for season two.
ICYMI, the show stars Steve Martin, Martin Short, and Selena Gomez for a generation-breaking, laugh-till-you’re-aching watch. They play three strangers in an Upper West Side NYC apartment building with one thing in common: They’re obsessed with true crime. When a gruesome murder happens in their own building, the three seize the opportunity to create their own true crime podcast with an active investigation.
“Everyone in our amazing Building worked with such love and expertise through extraordinary times—and with incredible support from Disney, Hulu, and 20th TV—to create a first season that might live up to our legendary cast, our beloved New York City, and to make a show about connection,” series cocreator and executive producer John Hoffman told Variety. “To feel we’ve connected with our audience and hit the mark enough already to have the chance to continue— and to carry on our show’s wild ride of mystery-comedy-empathy—is too exciting for words. So I’ll shut up now—and just say a huge thanks to all and I can’t wait for more!”
“There has been something about this project that felt almost fated from the start; from Dan’s first lunch with Steve in which Steve happened to mention he had an idea for a series, to John jumping aboard to cocreate it, to Steve’s agreeing to star but only if Marty joined him, to the inspired addition of Selena,” 20th Television president Karey Burke told Variety. “The comedy this team delivered has been the obsession of every executive at this studio, and our friends at Hulu have treated it like the crown jewel that it is. And now, thanks to the incredible audience response, we are so happy to say there will be more murders in the building—which is great news for everyone, except perhaps the residents of the Arconia.”
If you’re wondering about the season-two plot, look no further than episode four. Hoffman told E! News that character Cinda Canning’s (Tina Fey’s) monologue at the end of episode four holds a tease for what’s to come. So go back and watch!
Here’s everything we know about Only Murders in the Building season two:
Cara Delevingne has joined the cast. She’ll be a series regular, Deadline reports. Her character’s name is Alice, and she’s an art-world expert who becomes embroiled in the season’s mystery.
So have Amy Schumer and Shirley MacLaine! We are being absolutely spoiled with funny women next season. “Before Christmas, [I shot scenes with] Shirley MacLaine and Amy Schumer,” star and executive producer Martin Short revealed to Deadline on January 12, just after earning a SAG Award nomination for the show. “The quality of actor that this show is attracting makes it endlessly fun to go to work.”
Nathan Lane is coming back. In the same interview, Short confirmed that the theatrical and sneaky Teddy Dimas will make an appearance. Cannot wait.
